FIELD
MARSHALS
You will be the most visible person during this
tournament. Please remember that you
are representing the Pueblo Rangers Soccer Organization and these teams are our
guests. Be Helpful, Be Courteous, Be
Diplomatic. One of your most important
jobs is to ensure that the games are running on time. The games are scheduled VERY close together – and keeping the
schedule on time is critical to the scheduling of referees and fields.
WALK THE FIELDS.
Check nets for tight fit, tape or spike any loose points. Reposition corner flags if down. Check sidelines for trash after each game,
teams should be placing their trash in receptacles. Look for any safety issues, glass, holes, etc. Politely ask parents to remain 2 feet behind
field lines so that the linesmen have clear views.
Ensure referees are
present to start the game. If the
referee or assistant referee (AR) is not present the Field Marshal should radio
the Referee Coordinator at their site.
The Ref Coordinator will check the ref’s schedule and determine if they
are on route. Notify the Ref
Coordinator when the match completes.
The referees are often scheduled back to back and will not be available
prior to the game. Once the game has
started, notify the referee coordinator if the game is running on schedule or
not. Also, talk to coaches about
getting players warmed up off the field.
There will be no warm up time on the field.
You will be checking in teams. Player Check: This means asking the coach for the roster and game
cards. Check the player passes, picture, name and jersey number with the roster
name and number, verifying the cards and roster match the player. Equipment check: all players must be wearing shin guards, no baseball cleats (ones
with toe cleat). Refer any questions to
a referee (but they should not delay start of game).
Collect scorecards from referee after each game and deliver
to the Site Director. It is very
important that you check the scorecard for correct information before leaving
the field.
THE SCORECARD MUST:
If there is anything you are unsure of – ask the
referee. You need to make sure you are
getting all of the information and that it is correct. If you bring an incomplete score card to the
Site Director, it will not be accepted.
You will have to hunt down the referee for the correct information.
Report any disorderly conduct of spectators to the
Administration Personnel (Site Director).
We have a NO TOLERANCE POLICY of referee abuse before, during or after
games. However – it is the referee’s
call to remove spectators. Your job is
to attempt to diffuse the situation.
Contact the Site Director if unable to diffuse the problem. Never voice an opinion regarding what
happens on the field – that is the referee’s domain – don’t interpret the
rules. Send individuals to the Site
Director.
If an injury occurs, summon medical assistance
immediately. If the injury is not
serious – please ask that it be removed from the field ASAP and receive
attention from the sideline. If a field
gets backed-up due to a serious injury, the field marshal will notify the Site
Director so that the next game can start on time on an available overflow
field. The Tournament Site Director
will notify the Ref Coordinators of the field change. The Referee Coordinator will send officials to the overflow
sight.
Wear your Field Marshal vest so that you may be easily
identified.
When giving directions, make sure you send out of town
visitors on main streets. If uncertain
about street names, consult the Pueblo map at the site trailer. Refer to the tournament program for sponsors
when recommending food and/or activities.
Have fun – be helpful to our visitors.
